Inner Character

Inner Character

According to Dictionary.com character can be defined as the collective of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing; qualities of honesty, courage, or the like; integrity. These can be looked upon as unique qualities someone can hold. These also should be viewed as potential traits we each can attain when we work at them. I want to examine this moment with you and discuss, “Character.”

I would like for you to consider how important it is to have courage, to be an honest person and one who keeps their word. Although, it can be difficult, character is built up and can be brought down. One should consider it more important to keep their word at all costs. The other choice is to decide what if I held back from being totally honest about the situation. Each will affect our character and although it may not seem immediate in some instances, you will see the result.

I oftentimes, like to view the character of someone as though something is being made or built on the inside of us. We can become a very strong person when we are solid in our view of life, our purpose, and our faith and in our perspective of right and wrong. You see, there are things many do on the spur of their own emotions, negating whether this could be right or wrong. They are doing things out of their own impulses and feelings in the moment. It does not take character to understand that living in this way will result in perhaps some major consequences and regrets. It is the one who continues in this way, who has not learned restraint and the importance of cause and effect as well as responsibility for one’s own choices.

To understand character is to appreciate what it means to see a promise of something hard work has resulted in. Everything does not come easy but to those who have character, there is an understanding of the importance of moving past the hardships and forward in continued honesty, tenacity,  integrity and endurance in order to complete what they started even if they acquired different results along the way. There is an acceptance to the changes they have had to make in order to continue in the process of what they began.

Someone who has acquired character has also maintained hope which has sustained them. They see that, “it’s not over, until it’s over!” There is courage in the midst of adversity and tenacity amidst opposition. We all acquire character in our lives; this discussion is to reflect on where is your character is today? Are you learning to trust, grow in confidence and hold true to your convictions to remain honest? Do you have courage today to not quit? Whether you are striving for each or you want to learn how to walk out your life in this way, will be up to you to admit to where you are? Begin with honesty and deny the things that have lead you to be opposite. Being honest with yourself will lead you toward truth to make changes to acquire the results that will last. Otherwise, you will find that along the way, you may have allowed your character to be weakened due to disappointments, unresolved conflicts, and lack of courage and tenacity. Remember, this is your life and it is never too late to make changes and acquire the character and backbone to keep moving forward!

Let me hear from you. Share how you have maintained inner character even when it was difficult. Your stories encourage others. Thank you for taking moments with me.
