Interview Questions

1. Please introduce yourself and tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your brand.

Hi everyone. I’m Maddy Myer. I’m a publicist, freelance writer and a new podcast host. I’m someone who likes doing many different things everyday and am a huge pop culture fan, everything from Broadway to Wrestling to Kpop to Basketball.

2. In a niche such as yours, what is something that might surprise people—something many may not know about your field or the work you do?

I think people don’t realize how much a publicist really does. People see them as those who protect a client’s image and secure them press, but so much more goes into it. For writing, the amount of research that comes into crafting a great story is also under appreciated.

3. Tell us about some of the challenges or obstacles you have had to overcome along your journey.

Moving to Los Angeles at 22 from the south, the other “LA” aka Louisiana and managing grad school and a full time job at a PR agency in addition to a freelance writing job. Now I’m done with grad school but still doing both jobs, in addition to the podcast. Plus I’m a dog mom, so I’ve had to get better and better at time management.

4. Describe your growth along the way. What steps have helped you develop your platform, and are there any new projects or ideas you are currently working on?

Meeting new people, whether it’s from a concert, sports show, networking event, screening premiere, etc. Networking is everything, along with being authentic. People can smell fake from a mile away so I pride myself on being authentic. Aside from the podcast, I’m writing my first TV pilot script.

5. What do you believe helps you stand out in your space? And what encouragement would you offer to others who may be interested in starting a podcast or creating a platform similar to yours?

I think my ambition and ability to manage different ideas, and actually execute them. I would offer starting earlier than you think you should, the more prep time the better. I would recommend planning everything out from logos to descriptions to social media plans to platforms you’re recording and distributing on, etc.
