Written by my husband-Chris Young who makes me smile everyday.
I’ve recently become very interested in the benefits of smiling and wanted to share what I’ve learned. Below are some fascinating facts about what smiling can do for us. Let’s not wait for World Smile Day, celebrated on the first Friday of October, to start smiling more. We all know that life is demanding, with the juggling of work, social obligations, family, and more—but smiling can make it a bit easier.
Here are some of the benefits of smiling:
-
- Smiling can help lower blood sugar.
-
- It reduces stress.
-
- Smiling boosts and strengthens the immune system.
-
- It can lower blood pressure.
-
- Smiling releases natural painkillers.
-
- It’s an inexpensive way to look younger! Smiling exercises the muscles in your face, toning them and increasing blood flow, which can improve your complexion.
-
- One study found that genuine, intense smiling is associated with a longer life.
-
- Smiling releases endorphins and natural mood boosters, even when you force yourself to smile.
-
- Have you ever noticed that you feel happier when you smile?
-
- Smiling and laughing are like workouts for your heart. It’s been said that frowning uses 43 to 50 muscles, while smiling uses only 13 to 17—but the muscles used for smiling are much more beneficial.
-
- Smiling can even lower your chances of getting sick.
Here are a few other fun, smile-inducing thoughts:
-
- “Think like a proton. Be positive.”
-
- “If Plan A didn’t work, remember the alphabet has 25 more letters.”
-
- “Stick to it! Like a postage stamp, stay on until you reach your destination.”
I hope you smile more today and every day while doing so. I challenge everyone to smile more! 😊
Once again, let’s not wait for World Smile Day to start smiling more. Let’s start now!

Don’t let anyone or anything make you believe you are stuck.
There is always another way.
Keep pressing on and find it.
