A Miracle Story of Victoria Arlen
This amazing story is worth sharing. Some may be aware of Victoria Arlen already. She has such an incredible story of a miracle she experienced in her life. At the age of eleven she developed transverse myelitis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, two rare autoimmune disorders that caused swelling in her brain and spinal cord after having her appendix removed.
She went into this state of vegetation where she no longer could speak and lost the use of her motor skills. The doctors gave a poor prognosis to the family and bought no hope. It would be about 4 years later at the age of 15 that all of sudden she would begin to retain back her ability to blink at first and her mother realized Victoria is very aware of all that is occurring around her.
After working with speech therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapists Victoria still struggled with the use of her legs and had to use a wheelchair. After getting back into swimming she acquired a great desire to try for the London Paralympic Games where she won the gold at the age of 21. She found herself at 21 years old; one of ESPN’s youngest regular reporters. Currently, she works as a host and a reporter for programs and events like SportsCenter and the X Games.
She had such a desire to walk again too. At the age of 25, she found herself on Dancing with the Stars and made it all the way to the semifinals, living a life she once dreamed of in her hospital bed. This young beautiful lady is bringing so much hope to many with this incredible story of a true miracle in her body. She has a book coming out in August called, “Locked In.”
I wanted to share this real life moment to bring encouragement to many as I know those who know of her have been touched by her life already. There is such a sense hope as you hear her share her continued fight to get through this even when it seemed impossible. Learning how to persevere in the face of such a difficult time in her life sets an example that it’s possible with God on your side. She experienced a modern day miracle by God.
