Giving and receiving is a ‘constant’ in our everyday lives. But let’s really consider the two. There is something about the one who gives and the one who receives. Learning how to receive is important to the one who gives. The giver may love to be a blessing to others without any expectation in return however; they also must learn to receive just as equally. Let’s take a moment to discuss ‘giving and receiving.‘
There are those in life who simply enjoy giving to others and seeing how much they could help someone else. Giving is a gift and does not come easy to everyone. One must learn to give genuinely without any intention of receiving anything in return. An important part of giving is to learn that there may be times that you may have to hold off on your giving if someone is looking to you rather than God. Otherwise, the giver can be taken advantage of the individual. They may not understand the importance of seeking God personally and learn to trust Him to meet their needs.
Then there are those who are really good at receiving but not giving. These can be known as ‘takers.’ They like to take advantage of the generosity of the ‘giver.’ They may see the giver as someone who does not hold back on their giving and never says no. Takers assume their entitlement and their sense of deserving. One must be very careful of takers, there seems to be many who have taken advantage of givers too often.
Givers may not understand the side of receiving because they like to be the only one extending themselves. However, to the one who gives, it just as important in receiving. There may be times the giver may be in need and may not want to ask or receive because they just want to keep giving. It may be humbling to them to learn how to receive. But when the giver genuinely understands the importance of both ‘giving and receiving,’ then they have reached a place of maturity and have a healthy relationship.
I would love to hear what you have experienced with giving and receiving in your lives. Your stories encourage others and can bring to light real life experiences regarding these “Let’s Take a Moment” blogs.

Thank you for this thoughtful blog about receiving and giving. God blesses us with grace when we give.
I totally agree that both giving and receiving with grace is a skill to be developed over time. No one automatically knows “the right way.” People fumble in the beginning, learn from their feelings, and hopefully grow.
