Getting Past What They Say

Getting Past What They Say

Be careful of those who only want to remember you “when” (you fill in the blanks). Some choose to want you to stay the way, ‘they remember you.’ Too often, if we are not careful, we can fall into the trap of pleasing others and losing who we are. There are things we decide in our lives on a daily basis. To the most part, the faster you learn how to respond to these individuals, the better it is. Let’s take a moment to discuss pushing past what “they say.”

Can any of you honestly answer, who are the “they” in your lives? You know, the ones that we refer to as “they say…” Why put so much emphasis on them? Are ‘they’ impacting you for good? Do “they” change who you are in ways you are truly proud of? If you value someone else’s opinions too much, you may be bowing down to them in worship as your god, if you are not careful.

Opinions are formed by each of us on a variety of things, but they are not always based on true facts. You see, we are bombarded by daily messages and we can be changed by them if we are honest about it. There are too many choices at times and we can make mistakes obviously. The important lesson is that we recognize when we have allowed someone else’s opinions to change how we see things. Perhaps we have allowed it to also impact our convictions.

Those who do not want to see you successful are not the people you want in your life. Growing pains will cause you to recognize the true friends and family and the ones who are not. There is always room to grow in every one of our lives, so it is our mistake if we make a choice to allow opinions to hinder that to happen. Too often you will hear, ‘I can only see you doing…’ or ‘I can’t see you doing that…’ Decide to shut down these voices and stay determined in moving forward. These individuals only remember you by what you were and not who you are today!

If you have prayed for God to change your circumstances and remove what He must, then be reminded that you may experience some pain as He answers. You have to get past what you have allowed as “ok” with what “they are saying” and decide to keep growing with thick skin. Keep in mind, you will not always win everyone’s approval in all that you do but ultimately you must live out your life and receive God’s acceptance and direction as a believer.
