CHARACTER

CHARACTER

As I celebrate another birthday this week, I like to reflect on many things. Life is constant and things can change at any moment. How I am impacted and what I choose daily are moments that matter. Let’s take a moment to discuss, “Character.” For me, character is who we are. We each have a variety of characteristics that seem to shine brighter than others in ourselves. Some parts of our character are still being refined in the fire of trials and constant changes. It is important to pay attention to what part of your character is brilliant. We have opportunities to grow and do better every day. Read another blog on character:Inner Character Character is what makes us unique in our individual qualities. There are so many different characteristics that I can include. But for this blog I will discuss 3 that I find are so important. These include: Tenacity, Honesty, and Consistency. 1-Tenacity is to have determination. It is the ability to remain persistent in the midst of trying moments and opposition. We can be on the verge of a major break-through, but because something becomes so overwhelming, or just so difficult we quit. Having the determination to remain in the mist of these times builds up our character. 2-Honesty is the ability to be sincere in all circumstances. To be honest is to be truthful. We are living in times, where it appears most will choose not to be truthful or totally honest. It can be for a variety of reasons. Some reasons might include to avoid conflict, to maintain relationship, stature, etc. But living in this untruth brings a lack of genuine peace. I have seen too many hurt because of the choice of not being honest. I have also experienced when someone could not handle honesty but wanted falsehood. I like to say, “Honesty is the best policy in all things.” 3-Consistency is the ability to remain true to who you are. To me, it means to stay the course and not be deterred from your growth and moving forward. It means that what you say you mean and you mean what you say. This is someone who has their mind made up and nothing will change it. As you see character is being formed on the inside of each of us. We are choosing daily how we allow these character traits to be shaped in our individuality. I believe it is important to determine how we implement these qualities as they are being shaped on the inside of us. We can expect from others what we are ourselves are not walking out. I like to consider the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Now that I shared some of my thoughts on character, I would love to hear from you too. I have chosen only three at this time and perhaps will write about some others in the near future. Character is important to each of us. Let me hear your thoughts.
